🚾Constipation is when bowel motions (‘poo’) are hard, dry, difficult to pass, or happen less often than usual (less than three times per week). It can be a common problem, especially in younger children. Your child may become constipated for many reasons, including: ❌Not having enough fibre in their diet or not drinking enough fluids ❌Not being active ❌‘Holding in’ their bowel motions because they don’t want to use the toilet ❌Certain medications Treatment See your child’s doctor. The doctor will likely: ✅Prescribe laxatives ✅Suggest your child sit on the toilet at the same time each day to set a routine ✅Suggest you write in a diary when your child has a bowel movement ✅Review your child’s diet Tips to increase fibre in your child's diet: 🍎Choose whole vegetables and fruit instead of juice. 🍊Add fresh or frozen berries to cereal and yogurt. 🍏Add dried fruits to yogurt, salads and homemade muffins. 🍎Choose whole grain breads that have at least 2 grams of fibre per slice. 🍊Use high fibre breakfast cereal with at least 4 grams of fibre per serving 🍏Add lentils or beans to soups, casseroles and salads. #constipationinkids #diet #fibre #kidsnutrition #dietitianonline #childrensnutrition #childrensdietitian #meath #Dunshaughlin #what2eat.ie

Here's a few simple tips for keeping babies hydrated in warmer weather. 💦Breastmilk will naturally adapt to your babies need for more hydration in warmer weather. So continue to feed on demand. 💦Offer infant formula milk as normal. It's not advisable to dilute formula. 💦You can offer sips of cooled boiled tap water to formula fed babies if they need it after they've had their usual amount of milk. It's important that babies get all the nutrients that milk provides.
