It’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The unemployment rate for Indigenous women in the US is still nearly double that of the national average for women. As an HR professional, you can play a role in reversing this trend by creating more inclusive workplaces.

Most teenagers are familiar with the ruse: Mom asks if you’ve cleaned your room. You reply, “yes,” because you did, indeed, toss some of your dirty laundry in the basket before logging onto Xbox. But it’s not the full truth; it’s mostly false, but to a teen, it feels like enough of the truth.

American workers have employed a similar tactic when it comes to AI use, according to new research from Visier.

The survey of 1,000 full-time US employees found that 48% exaggerate their AI usage or expertise to colleagues or company leadership at least some of the time. Visier has identified this as “performative AI”: overstating and overplaying AI use in order to meet employer expectations.

“Something I wanted to understand: How often do people actually feel they have to use AI because of all these mandates?” said Andrea Derler, Visier’s principal researcher and author of the report. “We discovered that almost half of employees actually do feel that pressure to use it for basically all their workflows, whether they make sense or whether they don’t make sense.”

More than 110 countries guarantee at least some paid paternity leave, but it varies greatly, according to a new report from UK-based payroll software company Moorepay.

Where in the world? New dads in South Korea are eligible for up to 36 million South Korean won ($26,818) in paternity leave, on average, more than those in any other country included in the report. This includes 20 days paid at their full rate, plus up to 18 months of leave at reduced pay. Luxembourg was a close second at $23,411. Nordic countries including Sweden, Norway, and Iceland rounded out the top five.

“Our findings underscore that paternal leave is not just a workplace benefit, it’s a public health issue that can deeply impact families and children,” Craig Garfield, professor of pediatrics and medical social science at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, said in a new co-authored study. Garfield and his colleagues found that fathers who did not have access to leave were more likely to experience depression and anxiety.

Satellite view. Some 51 countries do not guarantee any paid paternity leave, including India, New Zealand, and the US. Not only does lack of paternity leave impact new fathers, but it can impact expectant and new mothers as well, according to some experts.
